Welcome to Imperials Football Club!

The long tradition of victory and team spirit lives on…
1917 marked the year of the Imperials’ birth. Today, it continues to flourish and give birth to new history-makers in the world of football.

Origins of Manjimup Football

The origins of football in the Warren District are closely linked to Jack Logan who in 1916 discussed playing organised football with Syd Mills, a former Carlton player, at the barber shop which was operated by Don McKay.

Don McKay suggested that a meeting be called at Manjimup and also one at Deanmill to gauge the interest in the sport. As a result Ross Bott, an employee of the National Bank, “Pud” Grey (team captain) and Don McKay became the organising force in Manjimup while Syd Mills and Jack Logan organised the Deanmill team.

Pemberton and Jardee were invited to participate and a Warren Football Association was form in 1917.

The locomotives from Deanmill and Pemberton provided the transport of players and spectators for more than a decade.

1918 MANJIMUP ( CENTRALS) -V- No.1 MILL

An interesting football match was played on the Manjimup Recreation Ground on Sunday May 17th. Much interest was manifested as it was the first game of the season.

The train ran from No.1 Mill and the people took advantage to witness a good days sport, a large crowd attending. No.1 Mill had a full team and looked well in colours Red, White & Blue.

Centrals also mustered a full team and played as well as they looked with their colours being Green & Gold. Syd Mills captained No.1while Norm Grey, a returned soldier , was the skipper appointed to command the Centrals.

The first quarter was fast and furious as each team was confident of winning. Manjimup seized the leather when the ball was bounced and passed on to a wingman who kicked the wrong way giving the opposition a good advantage. The ball passed up and down for some time and at last it was passed on by Centrals in a brilliant rush and the first goal of the season was notched up by J. Burrows.

An Empire of Winners

The Imperials Football Club Prides itself as the bearer of 15 Warren Football Association ‘A’ Grade Premierships which participated as a Competition from 1917 to 1958. Since the formation of the Lower South West Football League – Imperials have been the toast of the town winning a further 9 League Premierships.

This is the team spirit that the Imperials are known for – together in harmony, together in victory.

From our humble beginning, we grew into a massive family. No longer just a mere group but closely knit into a family – supporting, inspiring, uplifting each other, in and out of the field.

The Mission of Giving Back

Our support does not end within the club. We believe that we are a part of a bigger whole.
